Bloomberg debuts in fifth place in national poll

By

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg is now ahead of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) in the race for the Democratic primary, according to a new national poll.

The poll, conducted by The Hill and HarrisX, a market research firm, was released on Monday. It shows Bloomberg in fifth place nationally with 6% support from 1,001  registered Democratic voters and Democratic-leaning independents, up from 3%. Former Vice President Biden is leading with 31%, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at 15%, Sen. Warren (D-MA) at 10%, and South Bend Major Buttigieg with 9% support.

Sen. Kamala Harris fell behind with only 2% support, along with businessman  Andrew Yang, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Julián Castro. 3% of the respondents said they were unsure.

Bloomberg, the former New York City Mayor, officially entered the race last week after months of mulling on whether he wants to join other candidates in the Democratic field. Bloomberg's entry in the race is late, so his campaign will skip the first four primary states and will instead target Super Tuesday states. His plan has prompted some debates over whether it would yield results and his wealth has drawn criticism from some of his Democratic rivals, as we reported at LaCorte News.

Shortly after his announcement, Bloomberg News said it won't investigate him or his Democratic rivals and in response, the president's campaign said it will "no longer credential representatives of Bloomberg News."

Quitters: Two candidates, former Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) and Gov. Steve Bullock (D-MT) have left the race after failing to secure the type of national platform they need to raise campaign funds and ultimately rise in polls.
