Facebook labels factual claim about Obama, Hillary as “Partly False”

By

Facebook has labeled a post from the conservative platform PragerU as “Partly False” even though the fact-checker of the post confirmed the information was, in fact, accurate.

The post included a screenshot of a tweet which claimed that Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Sen. Chuck Schumer all voted for a fence on the southern border in 2006.

“Did you know? In 2006, Hillary Clinton voted for a fence on the Mexican border. So did Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer and 23 other Senate Democrats. Now, a border wall is considered racist. Why has the Left shifted so far on the issue of immigration?”

The post, however, was partially hidden by a warning message from Facebook, which labeled the post “Partly False” and links to PolitiFact to “See Why.”

In a fact-check titled Did top Democrats vote for a border wall in 2006? PolitiFact confirmed PragerU's claim, stating:

“Mulvaney said that Obama, Schumer and Clinton voted for a border wall in 2006.

They did vote for the Secure Fence Act of 2006, which authorized building a fence along about 700 miles of the border between the United States and Mexico.”

However, PolitiFact labels the post as only “Half True” as it “misses important context”:

“Still, the fence they voted for is not as substantial as the wall Trump is proposing. Trump himself called the 2006 fence a “nothing wall.”

Mulvaney’s statement is partially accurate, but ignores important context. We rate it Half True.”

PolitiFact appears to suggest that the post is "Half True" because Obama, Clinton, and Schumer, voted for a "fence" not a "wall" but PragerU clearly stated the top Democrats voted for a fence so it's unclear why the post is rated only partially true, according to ReclaimTheNet.

This comes two months after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted there “clearly was bias” in Facebook's “fact-check” of pro-life non-profit Live Action. It ultimately turned out that two of Facebook's "independent" fact-checkers were pro-abortion activists.
