Record label Mexican Summer has dropped Ariel Pink after the musician attended a pro-Trump rally that was followed by the Capitol riot on Wednesday.

The story: Mexican Summer announced the news on Saturday on Twitter. The company said it will no longer work with the Indie-rock musician, citing “recent events.” The company did not directly refer to his presence at President Trump’s rally.

“Due to recent events, Mexican Summer and its staff have decided to end our working relationship with Ariel Rosenberg AKA Ariel Pink moving forward,” the company said in a statement.

Worth noting: Mexican Summer released Pink’s most recent album, the 2017’s “Dedicated to Bobby Jameson.” The label was scheduled to release the final installments of its “Ariel Archives” series, according to the Rolling Stones.

How we got here: The musician, whose real name is Ariel Marcus Rosenberg, came under fire for attending the rally on social media after a now-deleted photo showed him, fellow artist John Maus and filmmaker Alex Lee Moyer at a hotel in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.

In response to the criticism, Pink fired off several tweets, claiming that he did not take part in the riots that took place on Capitol Hill and the storming of the building.

“I was in DC to peacefully show my support for the president. I attended the rally on the White House lawn and went back to hotel and took a nap. Case closed,” he wrote. When a user accused him of “putting others at risk by being at such a massive gathering” amid the coronavirus pandemic, the musician said attendees “deserve whats coming to them,” and pointed to months of Black Lives Matter protests.

“BLM protests over the past 6 months are not informed about the pandemic?” he asked.

“I don’t and never have advocated for violent confrontation or rioting. Must be my boomer upbringing,” Pink added in response to a tweet that has been deleted.

Pink has not commented on Mexican Summer’s decision to stop working with him.

They will censor anyone who supports the conservative agenda. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you own or what you do. They are the communist democrats who will do anything to get what they want. They have no ethics or morals so they don’t spend sleepless nights worrying about the sins they commit and the people they hurt.
