Ukraine is expanding probe into Burisma founder

Ukraine is extending its investigation into the founder of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings to include embezzlement of government funds, the country's top prosecutor announced Wednesday.

The story: Prosecutor General Ruslan Ryaboshapka said Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky, whose whereabouts are unknown, will be investigated for “theft of government funds on an especially large scale.”

At a separate news conference the same day, three Ukrainian lawmakers released a document which showed that Zlochevsky was suspected of embezzling $33 million belonging to the central bank while serving as the country's minister of ecology and natural resources from 2010 through 2012.

The investigation, however, is currently on hold as Ukrainian authorities do not know Zlochevsky’s whereabouts, according to Reuters.

It only took a few years for mainstream reporters to go from being biased to outright activists. Hang around LaCorte News to get some news without the spin.

Since he took office in August, Ryaboshapka has launched a review of a number of criminal cases, 13 of which are connected to Zlochevsky.

“Currently we are reviewing the criminal cases that have been previously pursued by the Prosecutor General’s Office,” Ryaboshapka said in October, according to The Daily Caller. “The sphere you’re talking about features (Burisma owner and former Ecology Minister Mykola) Zlochevsky, (Yanukovych ally and tycoon Serhiy) Kurchenko and other people and companies – there are about 15 such cases.”

U.S. President Donald Trump is currently facing an impeachment inquiry sparked by his July request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to launch an investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani previously met with Kostiantyn Kulyk, the prosecutor who has investigated Burisma, in Paris to discuss possible accusations against the Bidens.

During their meeting, Giuliani said, Kulyk said while still serving as vice president in 2016, Joe Biden attempted to pressure Ukraine into removing then-chief prosecutor Viktor Shokin to prevent him from investigating Burisma, where Hunter Biden served on the board of directors.
